OrionHealth is a Western Canadian Pain and Medication Management company. We are an employee owned company with a reputation for integrity and clinical excellence; our clinicians are passionate about innovation and quality. ACTIVITY RELATED SOFT TISSUE DISORDER

Activity-Related Soft Tissue Disorders (ASTD) are non traumatic soft tissue conditions associated with overuse. The majority of ASTD’s are work related. It includes conditions such as tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome and occurs in a variety of hand and arm intensive occupations.

Career and Employment Information Services

OrionHealth is the leading choice for employment and rehabilitation programs to persons with disabilities as well as individuals with chronic disease and chronic pain. Specifically, OrionHealth Career and Employment Information Services (OHCEIS) helps improve the self reliance of unemployed Calgarians with disabilities by helping them understand the labour market, make informed career decisions, develop realistic education, training and employment plans, and prepare for, find and maintain work. Our philosophy is that healthy productive functioning, self management and sustainable work are key components of health and social independence.

At OrionHealth we focus on the client and customized many of our services to best meet our client needs. Our mission speaks directly to OrionHealth Career and Employment Information Services (OHCEIS). We unlock the potential in people by providing services that contribute to their health and well being; specifically enhancing productive functioning, self management, and sustainable work. This includes helping clients to connect learning and work, manage their careers and effective transitions throughout life, identify their strengths and abilities, and address barriers to employment.

CUMULATIVE ACTIVITY RELATED DISORDER (CARD)

The Cumulative Activity Related Disorder Program focuses on rehabilitation of injuries resulting from repetition or overuse. Successful management and prevention of these injuries requires a coordinated approach from a specialized injury management team.

PAIN MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS

OrionHealth’s pain management program is provided by a multi-disciplinary team offering occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, kinesiology, acupuncture, medical, pharmaceutical assessments, consultations and programs. It utilizes a holistic approach to assist with mood, decreasing reliance on medications and when possible, returning to employment.

ERGONOMIC SERVICES

OrionHealth’s occupational therapists have extensive experience in providing ergonomic consulting and risk assessment in various industrial and office settings. Our ergonomic services are provided for workers with existing injuries to facilitate their recovery and to determine their tolerances for work duties. In addition we help prevent recurrence and, for healthy populations to minimize exposure to avoidable work related injury hazards.

EARLY SAFE RETURN TO WORK SERVICES (ESRTWS)

OrionHealth’s Early Safe Return to Work Services provide a framework for insurers and employers interested in assisting injured workers to make a safe and timely return to the worksite. Our Return to Work Services increase the probability of work return and the success and durability of such, promoting healthier, more productive workers resulting in lower premium costs to the employer.

FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATION (FCE)

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a systematic process of objectively measuring a client’s ability to perform work and non-work related tasks. The evaluation is conducted on a 1:1 basis by an occupational therapist with specialized clinical skills in functional capacity evaluation.

The (FCE) is designed to assess key physical skills related to the client’s job as well as the skills identified in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) and the National Occupational Classification (NOC). It combines standardized testing with work simulation and clinical observations to determine the client’s capacity to participate in work activity.

MEDICAL LEGAL SERVICES - COST OF FUTURE CARE EVALUATIONS

OrionHealth provides assessments of Cost of Future Care for the medical, legal and insurance communities. A cost of future care evaluation is a projection of costs related to a client’s future care needs. It can range from a few item addendum included with a work or functional capacity evaluation, to a lengthy document synthesizing a range of medical and functional information with recommendations for life long equipment, supplies, treatments, services, and care. Cost of Future Care recommendations are made with the express aim of restoring the individual to as close to pre-injury function as is reasonably possible. Further, they aim to prevent functional deterioration and reduce safety/health risks associated with injury sequella.

Medication Management Program

We transform knowledge into capacity and possibilities into programs. In 2007 OrionHealth developed a new program called the Medication Management Program. The primary goal of this program is to reduce the client reliance on medication for pain management; eliminating the patients’ use of prescription opioids, as appropriate. Prescription opioids are any chemical substance that has a morphine-like action in the body – thus any medication from codeine through to oxycodone or methadone.

OCCUPATIONAL REHABILITATION

Injuries impact on more than the site of the injury. They impact on the individual’s ability to participate in activities at work and at home. They require a coordinated approach to provide treatment and education. Occupational Rehabilitation (OR Programs) is designed to assist injured workers with a timely, cost effective return to work with a focus on prevention of future claims.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

OrionHealth offers a wide range of psychological and rehabilitation services tailored to the unique needs of both the client and the referring agency. Our goal is to provide cost effective, client centered and outcome oriented solutions for individuals who require psychological assistance. We provide assessment and treatment for a wide range of psychological conditions and intervention strategies.

VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS - Medical Legal Services

A vocational assessment is designed to address the vocational impact an injury or illness has on an individual. The assessment typically takes 6 hours and includes a structured interview and a battery of vocational tests including aptitude tests, academic achievement tests, and an interest inventory. The vocational consultant incorporates functional limitations, medical documentation, interview findings, testing results and labour market research in order to render a vocational opinion.
