Avita Sharma joined Progressive Rehab in 2001 after gaining experience at Riverview Hospital and in other community rehabilitation settings. Avita has a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. She has worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant for over 8 years and has experience working with individuals with a wide range of disabilities including brain injury, orthopaedic injuries, soft tissue injuries and mental health. She has provided vocational rehabilitation services for a number of referral agencies including WorkSafeBC, ICBC, lawyers, private insurance companies, BC Teachers’ Federation and the Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance. Avita also has experience providing clinical counselling services to address a broad range of issues, and has a specialty interest in cross-cultural counselling. She has presented at a number of workshops and seminars, guest lectured at UBC on a variety of rehabilitation topics, and is an instructor for SFU’s Rehabilition Management Program. Since joining Progressive Rehab, Avita has advanced her clinical role to include medical-legal vocational assessment services and to provide expert opinion in matters pertaining to vocational rehabilitation.
Qualifications & Memberships:
• Graduate of the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Education, Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and Special Education (Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology)
• Holds designation of Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
• Member in Good Standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)
• Approved provider for WorkSafeBC vocational services, Department of Veterans’ Affairs and The Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance
• Qualified as an expert witness in the Supreme Court of British Columbia
